OKOWA: WHEN CRITICISMS SPEAKS VOLUMES

Governor Okowa could no doubt be described as divinely sent to navigate the State through the present economic difficulties arising from the national economic recession. Despite all odds, he remains consistently a people-oriented leader.
Every project he has designed and decisions he has taken, even as critics pillory him, are conceived to improve the quality of life of the people and develop the economy of the State.
It takes only a person consumed by hate or one totally misinformed by fake news to viciously criticize the governor's policies and projects as the case has been since he got into office in 2015.
One of the most topical of these tragic attempts to undermine Governor Okowa and the State government he leads, is the issue of local government salary. And recently, flood in the State capital and some parts of the State. These are tragedies are national and global but has been made to look as if Delta State was the only one going through the challenges.
It is utterly nauseating to hear or read those who participated in creating the mess shamelessly portray themselves as the saints and agents of change, by virtue of leaving the PDP for APC. Their participate cut across every level of government: ex local government chairmen, honourable members, commissioners, advisers etc, and those who were in development agencies, such as NDDC and DESOPADEC. It is even more pathetic that none of these persons has an iota of public service at heart. All the criticisms are geared towards opportunity to participate in government for self-service. Principles don’t matter to them, it’s all about opportunism.

But the truth of the matter is that of all the States that are affected, Delta State is doing everything in the circumstance to manage the crises.
Even in that process, the vicious critics give the impression and continue to mislead the public as if the Governor is doing nothing or has refused to consider the plight of his people.

If opponents would not acknowledge and shortsighted people would deny Okowa’s extra-ordinary selfless commitment to the service of the people,  history will, however, acclaim it because the facts are there to prove it.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
