DELTA LG ELECTION: GOVERNOR OKOWA LEADS PDP CAMPAIGN IN GRAND STYLE

When it is said that Delta State is PDP and PDP is Delta State, the opposition parties in the State deliberately refuses to accept that naked truth.
Right from the time of Chief Ibori’s administration, at every election it has always been the same pattern with major opposition parties in the State not being on ground mobilizing the people towards electoral victory.
Opposition parties in Delta State largely play their politics on the pages of newspapers and most recently on social media platforms. They erroneously believe that popularity on those platforms is synonymous with popularity on the ground.
As we move towards the forthcoming local government election in the State, the story is not different. Presently, the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is leading the PDP campaigns from one local government area to the other, foraging into every nooks and cranny mobilizing the people at the grassroots to support PDP.
At one of the stops, Governor Okowa enjoined all party members and eligible voters to go from door to door in all communities to campaign and mobilize for PDP and its candidates; victory is sure through hard work.
But the APC and its leaders are busy on the pages of newspapers and social media, rather than come out and campaign for their chairmanship and other candidates for the 6th January, 2018 local council elections in the State.
While Governor Okowa and other PDP leaders are busy campaigning, and mobilizing eligible voters across the State, for the 6th January 2018 local council election, the opposition APC and its leaders are busy writing letters to royal fathers, respected clergymen and to Mr. President.

Opposition politics is not all about Facebook, television and newspapers politics. Election victory goes beyond sweet grammar in the mass media, it entails mass mobilization of the people to guarantee victory for party and candidates.
Vitriolic messages in the media and those letters are cheap propaganda that cannot attract a single vote. To play the role of serious opposition and secure votes, the opposition parties in Delta State should emulate PDP by leaving their comfort zone and airconditioned homes to campaign for their candidates.
As usual, after the election, it would not be unexpected to see the opposition crying foul. Very soon they will commence empty propaganda, while screaming and accusing PDP of manipulating the election.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

THE ENDURING LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP: Chief James Ibori Celebrated for His Impact on Delta State

On Friday, May 31st, during the funeral service for the Late Asagba of Asaba, the essence of true leadership was vividly displayed. The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State. Despite having left office seventeen years ago, he continues to be celebrated whenever he attends public functions i...
