While welcoming members, Tuesday on resumption after the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Speaker commended members for their contributions which made it possible for the House to achieve a commendable result in 2017 and urged them to double up their efforts in the New Year.
According to him, the House was able to pass the 2018 Appropriation bill into law in November   2017, describing it as unprecedented, adding that the House successfully worked on the 4th Alteration Bill, 2017 of the Constitution which was forwarded to it by the National Assembly, noting that; “these are indeed milestones for the House.”
“As we have resumed this year for our legislative duties, I urge all of us to settle down to our various duties as fast as possible and begin to play our part in moving Delta State forward. On this note, I therefore call on Chairmen of Committees to work on outstanding Bills that are before their committees and bring them before the House for further legislative action as we are determined to give Deltans the best. I want to assure our people that the Legislature will always work for the interest of Deltans.”
The Speaker thanked members for their unalloyed support to him and the Leadership of the House, and implored them to sustain same in this year 2018.
He stated further, “I also wish to acknowledge the support of the staff of the Assembly. I thank you very much.”
He also commended the State Governor for his continued support to the Delta State House of Assembly saying; “The House is in its enviable position today as a result of the   support being enjoyed from the Executive Arm of the State Government. But we hope for more support this year.  The Delta State House of Assembly will sustain the existing cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislative.”

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
