The Lagos State Police Command has warned the Lagos State chapter of Nigerian Bar Association [NBA] and other groups to desist from the proposed anti-President Muhammadu Buhari protest slated for today in the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti stated this in a stern warning statement on Wednesday.
In the statement, SP Oti stated that “the Lagos State Police Command will not tolerate any protest from the NBA or from any group or individual for that matter during the visit of Mr President whom Lagosians are ready to receive warmly.”
Speaking further, he warned “NBA and any group wanting to protest at this time are warned to jettison the idea or face dire consequences which may include arrest and prosecution of participants.”
He concluded by stating that “it is curious that of all the NBA branches in Lagos, it is only the Ikeja branch that has been using the option of protest and civil disobedience despite several options available to it.
He said that the intended protest lends “credence to the intelligence report that the Chairman of the NBA is a pawn in the hands of some disgruntled politicians”.
President Buhari is billed for a two-day working visit to Lagos to commission a bus terminus constructed by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration.
The NBA protest was targetted against the denial by the Martin Luther King Center over the award given to President Buhari by some miscreants that claimed they represented the late sage.
The award was presented to him in Abuja by persons claiming to come from the family of Martin Luther king Led by an impersonator of Luther’s wife.
The impersonator said Buhari won the award because of America’s recognition of his anti-corruption war and urge him not to be distracted.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
