N123M SHELL ULRA-MODERN HALL COMMISSIONED IN UGBORODO...As Okowa Calls On Companies To Return To Warri

Amidst the efforts by the Delta state government to ensure sustainable peace in the state and appeals from stakeholders for companies that left Warri, the oil city due to various communal crisis to return, Shell Petroleum Development Company(SPDC) has said peace is the fulcrum on which development is built.
 
Shell General Manager, External Relations, Mr. Igo Weli who spoke in Ughorodo, Warri South-West Local Government Council during the inauguration of a 500 Multi-Purpose town hall said, “These are just a few of the benefits that our hosts stand to enjoy where the enabling business environment is provided”


 He said the project would contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of Ugborodo community and appealed to members of the community to support the Ugborodo Project Community Trust to ensure the maintenance of the town hall.
 
Mr. Weli explained that Ugborodo community chose the construction of a town hall as a priority need of the people and the project was directly supervised by the Ugborodo Project Community Trust. According to him, the 500 capacity town hall was completed as the cost of N123m and had provision for five offices, a meeting room for eighteen, one ICT room, a store and conveniences.

Speaking on the occasion, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, who was represented by Mr. Pirah Mofe, Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas said no sacrifice would be too much for public and private sector to identify with the people where they operate.
 
He said with his smart agenda, he was determined to upgrade the infrastructure in Warri and environs and that the state government would continue to provide the conducive environment for business to operate.
 
Gov. Okowa appealed to Shell to restore the full complement of its western operation back to Warri and hope that with the dredging of Escravos bar more businesses would return to Warri
 
In his address the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli warned youths not to disturb any project sited his kingdom stressing that contractors must be supported to allow good things to be implemented for the communities. He appealed to Shell to return back to Warri as the city was now very peaceful
 
Also, Mr. Christian Akpieyi who spoke for the Ugborodo community thank Shell for putting up the GMoU with a watertight financial control system for the sole purpose of delivering their Corporate Social Responsibility contract which was evident in the ultra modern multi-purpose town hall with capacity to impact positively on the people.
 
Speaking to reporters, Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli, Chairman, Donparker General Enterprise limited that built the town hall urged fellow contractors not to be deterred by challenges when executing projects for communities
