The Delta State Government has approved the hosting of the 21st edition of the African Senior Athletics Championship (ASAC), tagged “Asaba 2018” in the state in August.
The Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Patrick Ukah, disclosed this in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Asaba.
Ukah said that the approval was given by the State Executive Council at a meeting held on Tuesday in Asaba.
The commissioner said the council also approved a contract for additional work and variation at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, venue of the championship.
“The approval is a follow-up to the one given for the completion of the second phase outstanding work in the stadium last month by the council,” he said.
He said that to show government`s commitment to the project, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa took all members of the council on an inspection of stadium to see the extent of work done.
Ukah also disclosed that the council approved the Implementation, Design and Expenditure Plan for 2018/2019 cycle of job creation programmes via the Skill Training Entrepreneur Programme (STEP) and Youth Agricultural Entrepreneur Programme (YAGEP).
“This is part of the state government’s drive to create wealth for the people,” he said
