We, the undersigned,
serious, firm and progressive candidates for the Delta State APC Chairmanship
position, wish to emphatically state as follows:
• That we hereby
disassociate ourselves from the sham, one-sided, illegal, mischievous and
highly irregular State Congress held at St. Molumba's College, Asaba on 19th
May, 2018, that violently conflicted with the Constitution of APC and the
Guidelines released by the National Working Committee (NWC) of our Party for
the conduct of the Congresses.
• That we stand for a
free, fair, open, all inclusive and non-discriminatory Congresses in Delta
State.
• That the National
Leadership of our Party officially announced the postponement of the Delta
State Congress from 19th May, 2018 to 21st May, 2018. Accordingly, Congress
Committee members were not available at the State as at when expected and that
the Chairman of the Committee, who we learnt was later replaced before the
conduct of the ill-conceived State Congress, never showed up in the State until
15 minutes to the Conduct of the sham, and illegal Congress. Also, Congress
materials like “Forms” were/are not available for aspiring and highly prepared
members of our Party who have duly paid into designated Bank Accounts as
mandated by the APC Congress Guidelines, as such were/are yet to arrive the
State Secretariat of the Party.
• That the said State
Congress was held in bad fate and with the intention to disenfranchise other
serious aspirants, who have large followership, done serious statewide
consultations, campaigns and made payment for the purchase of Congress Forms to
contest the Chairmanship position of the Party and other positions in the State,
in order to impose highly unpopular candidates on our party in the draconian
style of the PDP.
• That the said Congress
was an exercise in futility, as it was characterised by impunity, imposition
and dictatorial tendencies, without recourse to internal democracy, due
process, fairness, transparency and accountability. Such cannot be tolerated
under a democratic setting.
• That a Party that has
over seven (7) State Chairmanship Candidates cannot be conducting a State
Congress through “affirmation” while there was no form of harmonisation or
consensus among the candidates. Also, there was neither accreditation of
delegates nor room for free contest because the group involved had an already
illegally fashioned a highly discriminatory list in place in furtherance of a
factional agenda.
• That there is serious
controversy trailing the Delta State Congresses arising from godfatherism,
undue interference, imposition and impunity, which has led to parallel and
non-inclusive Congresses from the Ward through to the LGA Congresses and now
the State. And as a result, there is no definite, real and generally accepted
Ward Executives, LGA Delegates and Executives as well as State Delegates in
Delta State.
• That the Delta State
APC Congress cannot be validly conducted until a proper, legal and openly
accepted State delegate list emerges, which will be impossible without a free,
fair, open and all inclusive Wards and LGAs Congresses are held or an
all-inclusive harmonisation is done.
• That we call on the
National Leadership of the Party and all relevant stakeholders to as a matter
of urgency correct these anomalies and unprecedented irregularities rocking the
Delta State APC before a new precedence of impunity, imposition and
godfatherism, which will undoubtedly destroy the APC in Delta State, is
instituted. And also call to order all persons promoting division,
sectionalism, impunity, illegality and godfatherism in Delta State APC.
• That if something is
not urgently done within the next few days, Delta APC will have us to contend
with, as we shall not leave any stone unturned in fighting for our rights and
resisting the PDP-styled imposition and impunity tactics that is fast creeping
into our party through divisive and highly egocentric agents that want to hijack
the structure of the APC for their private gains.
Finally, we are aware,
as other Delta APC faithfuls that a bitter and destructive fight for the soul
of APC is presently raging between two tendencies within the Party. This fight
has unfortunately reduced Delta APC to one acrimonious and bitterly divided
family. Both tendencies have done and are still doing everything possible to
gain advantage over one another and in the process they have both resorted to
the much vilified PDP way of doing things. We wish to state here that we, the
undersigned have resolved to be independent in the needless bitter intra party
fight for control. We have therefore taken it upon ourselves to provide a
neutral and unifying way forward for our party as a stabilising third force.
Therefore, for the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state without any
equivocation, that our condemnation of the sham State Congress should not be
mistaken for endorsement of the other tendency in the bitter and selfish fight
for sole control of our party as it has become clear to all men and women of
goodwill in Delta APC that both tendencies are totally similar in their
undemocratic ways of impunity, imposition of unpopular candidates and hatred
for internal democracy within the Delta APC! We are fully committed to doing
everything within the law to ensure that both tendencies embrace internal
democracy (respect for the people's will, not godfathers' will, like PDP) and
also recognise that we require a United APC House to dislodge PDP from power in
Delta State.
