CORRUPTION ALLEGATION: President Buhari Under Pressure to Dump Adam Oshiomole

The Grassroots Democratic Party of Nigeria (GDPN) has taken a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari and his anti-corruption fight saying, he should allow EFCC to investigate former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole and let the courts decide his fate, if he is fighting graft.

In a chat with The Nigeria Times yesterday at the Asokoro, Abuja national headquarters of GDPN, the National Chairman, GDPN, Amb. Cedrack Okpebholo decried that it is sad that President Buhari will be supporting someone who was alleged of plundering the resources of a state for the position of the national chairman of the ruling party, APC.

He, however, described Buhari’s war on corruption as “fluke” if he is shielding the former labour leader from the EFCC’s investigation.

According to him: “The president cannot be talking about fighting corruption and at the same time projecting a man who has been accused of plundering the resources of a state and created a heavy debt burden on the people of Edo State to become the chairman of their party APC.

“There are allegations against the former governor, petitions were said to been sent to the EFCC since two years ago and the anti graft agency has not deemed it fit to invite him and investigate him and yet, those who are calling others thieves are fronting him to be their chairman.”

When reminded that the EFCC recently sent two former governor to jail after being successfully prosecuted and convicted, the Edo State born British trained politician asserted that the conviction of former governors Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye of Tararba and Plateau states respectively should not be credited to the current administration.

He said: “Don’t forget that those cases started in 2007 during the administration of the PDP and as a matter of fact, most of the serious cases the agency is handling today all started before the birth of this administration.

“What has happened to those indicted since this government came into office? What is happening to Babachir Lawal, Manu or even the case of the former NNPC boss, Yakubu?

“If Oshiomole is allowed to participate in the process of electing the national exco of the ruling party at all, it means everything about Buhari and the APC is just fake.”

He added that Buhari should allow EFCC to investigate Oshiomole and let the courts decide his fate.
