THE END OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA…As Adams Oshomhole And Babagana Kingibe Become The New Faces Of Anti-Democratic Forces In Nigeria

Gradually, we are descending into a Dictatorship, which should not be, since we are not under the Military. If APC is popular, do they need force to coerce Nigerians into voting for their failed messiah? This is an administration which came into office with the mantra of CHANGE but has found it difficult to transcend the inglorious past and keeps comparing itself with all the failures and evils of the past.

Adams Oshomole is gradually destroying democracy and APC in less than a month he assumed office due to lack of leadership skill, arising from his dictatorial tendencies.

The gangster operations in Benue State, which was led by AC OPS, Emmanuel Adesina saw minority members sitting without the mace and the clerk of the Assembly, suspending the majority 22 members and serving impeachment notice on Governor Ortom. It is equally embarrassing that a supposedly democratic government would resort to thuggish tactics where political engagement is needed.

This is a throwback to full-blown dictatorship and the dark days of 1983 when human beings were put in crates. Of particular note is the surprising role of the Police in this undemocratic event, in which the minority is seeking to impeach a Governor, against the position of the majority. The sacred institution of the Legislature is being desecrated and rubbished in all these negative developments.

The role of the police in the Benue State House of Assembly crisis has grave implication for the nation’s democracy, and it represents a throw-back to the period of Dictatorship in our country. It also represents how the Nigeria Police are being misused to achieve a political end. In a statement recently, the Presidency derisively referred to an era in the past, where a minority number of Legislators was used to impeach Governors who were unfriendly with the Federal Government. What we are seeing in Benue now, is a return to that inglorious era, which Nigerians have transcended.

President Buhari should know in advance that he would be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Benue and any possible loss of lives.

The international community should pay particular attention to the on-going subversion of the democratic process in Benue in particular and Nigeria in general by the Buhari government.
