REMOVAL OF SARAKI IS NOW PART OF APC MANIFESTO

The call for the removal of President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has for the past few weeks become the national anthem of All Progressives Congress (APC).
While the call has become a singsong of the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, lawmakers, stakeholders among others have also joined the chorus for the removal.
As if that was not enough, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association on Tuesday joined the APC and others for the call to remove Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate.
Some concerned Nigerians, have, however, asked if the removal of Saraki is part of APC manifesto and why should that supersede the call to address national issues bordering on development that would impact the lives of the people?
However, the call by Oshiomhole and others have not only generated controversy and nationwide condemnation, but concerned Nigerians are asking if Oshiomhole and those calling for Saraki removal would subvert the Constitution of the land.
They had also asked if the Miyetti Allah is now a political party or an arm of government that can give order to a government that was legitimately elected.
The Constitution of the land expressly stated that before the President of the Senate can be impeached or removed, it will take the two third of the entire senators to do so. Anything short of that would amount to illegality.
Two third of the 109 senators is 73, and none of the party members in the Senate has the strength presently to summon that number on the floor. But, some persons, are, however wondering how the call for the removal can be achieved if both parties cannot summon the required number needed to impeach the President of the Senate.
Recall that Oshiomhole, while meeting with the APC Senators and members of the House of Representatives, in Abuja recently, had said that Saraki’s removal from office is a task that must be done because the party and its majority lawmakers would not accept minority rule.
He said: “We will impeach Saraki legally and democratically. The only way he can avoid impeachment is to either resign or return to the majority party- even then we will not accept him, he should remain where he is. No amount of blackmail or sponsored analysts can stop his removal.”
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, was also quoted to have joined those calling for the removal of Saraki and had said that Saraki should do the honourable thing by resigning his position, adding that if he does otherwise he would be humiliated.
Former Deputy Director of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Council, Engineer Mohammed Lawal, in a report recently also echoed the impeachment of Saraki.
Some Senators, who were not comfortable with the call, had queried whether the APC is being fair to Nigeria by focusing on one individual and making him the subject of all discussions instead of telling Nigerians what the party has done in the last 38 months that it has been in power.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Hamma Misau and his counterpart in the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim have stated that the manner in which the leadership of APC left all issues which should get serious attention from the ruling party and focused on attacking Saraki has made the Senate President the issue in Nigerian politics.
Some political analysts, have, however, called on those making the call to trend with caution in order not to overheat the polity and also to note that the nation’s Constitution supersedes individual ambition and opinion.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment.
