About a year ago when I set out with my 2019 campaign organization to seek for the ticket of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to re-contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2019 general elections, it was based on my genuine intention to reclaim the mandate the Urhobo people and indeed, the people of the district gave to me to represent them in the Senate in 2015. It remains my firm belief that my stay in the Senate was truncated seven months after through judicial somersault and rascality, and it is only fair I seek another mandate from the people.
With the campaign organization which had Chief Moses Odibo as the Director-General, we traversed the length and breadth of the district consulting elders, leaders, members of our party for their support to clinch the PDP Senatorial ticket to contest in the 2019 general elections. I must confess that throughout the robust consultation, the support and encouragement I got were overwhelming from our party men and women, who have not lost touch of my political antecedents and commitment to Urhobo course.
However, as a political party, and one deeply committed to the entrenchment of internal party democracy in our dear country, the decision to determine who flies the party’s flag for the Senatorial election in February, 2019, rested with the party’s delegates. And on October 2, 2018, at the Sapele township stadium, a majority of the delegates voted in favour of another contestant in the race.
For me, the delegates have spoken. I congratulate the winner, Hon. Evelyn Oboro, the leadership of the party for providing a level playing field for the aspirants; and the party delegates for their orderliness during the exercise. I want to specially express my profound gratitude to members of the immediate family, the leaderships of the various strata of the Amori 2019 Senatorial Campaign Organisation. Every member of the organization gave their best, and I remain eternally grateful to you all for your commitment, dedication and sacrifices. To our party elders, leaders and members across the PDP wards in Delta Central, I say a big thank you to you all.
In every contest, a winner must emerge. As a Christian of the Roman Catholic faith, I believe Power belongs to God. After party primary comes the general elections. It is time as true party men and women to show greater love and commitment to the PDP as we confront the opposition parties in the State in 2019 general elections.
I appeal and call on all my supporters to remain calm and put behind them the outcome of the Senatorial primary. Cheer up; let your spirit not be dampened as it is not the end of the road. The future remains bright for all of us, and I encourage you all to keep faith with me in my political sojourn to offer our people the best in life. Eschew politics of bitterness; let us remain united and forge a common front to emerge victorious in the elections for 2019.
Our party’s interest is greater than any individual’s political interest or ambition. If you love me so much and believes in me, it is now time to demonstrate it through your support for the party. I remain committed to the PDP as clearly manifested in my unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party irrespective of the political tribulations I have faced in the party. Despite the deliberate attempts to silent or shut me out of the party in the past, I have remained unperturbed and steadfast. Since I joined other stakeholders in founding the party in Delta State, I have remained a loyal party man; and that I shall continue to be. I will continue to champion as I have always done, efforts to propel our great party PDP to victory in the 2019 polls.
As loyal and committed party members, let us remain focused and united for the task ahead, one of which is to return to power at the Federal level in 2019. Already, the outcome of the PDP National Convention held in PortHarcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th, October, 2018, is a pointer that the party is poised to reclaim power under a transparent electoral process. The convention which produced the party’s Presidential flag bearer for the 2019 general elections unarguably and by international standards is the freest, fairest and credible party primaries to be conducted in the history of the country. PDP, no doubt, is setting the pace for other political parties in the country to emulate.
I congratulate the winner of the Presidential primary, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON. Abubakar’s victory was well deserved. Many other stakeholders and I in the party who supported and worked for his emergence as the party’s Presidential candidate believe he is the right man for the job. He is the viable choice of the PDP as demonstrated in the overwhelming votes of the party delegates to the convention, to wrestle power from the current ruling party at the centre in the country. Abubakar to me is a Pan Nigerian, who believes strongly in the restructuring of the country that has remained stagnated in growth and development after more than fifty years of attaining Independence. Abubakar I know can fix Nigeria.
I shall keep all of you inundated of developments that are for our collective good as they unfold. Thanks and God bless you all for the opportunity
