Nigerian Singer, Seun Kuti has called out the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the group’s silence on the trending #SexForGrades scandal.

Following the release of the BBC undercover investigation video, several celebrities and Nigerians have reacted to the sexual harassment faced by girls in Nigerian universities.

His reaction followed the publication of the #SexForGrades documentary on Monday by BBC Africa Eye.

The 13-minute documentary captured the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Ghana.

A senior lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, was filmed sexually harassing Kiki Mordi, an undercover journalist who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker in the institution..

Seun, son of late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, wrote in Pidgin English on Tuesday on Twitter that Nigerians were waiting for ASUU to speak on the burning issue.

“ASUU leaders make una no pretend like say una no hear all dis noise about una members accuse of sex for grades in our unis, if na una money struggle now, una go expect both activists and students to rise and fight for una, now d students need una to rise and fight for dem too,” he said.

The singer also attacked the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, for keeping mute on the government’s position in bringing an end to sexual abuse in institutions of learning.

“Oga Adamu Adamu wetin u b minister of education for wen der is a national issue affecting all our unis and u no fit tell us govt position on dis, r u in support of d lecturers demanding sex for grades ni, abi why we never hear from u about it as d minister of education,” Seun said.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State. Despite having left office seventeen years ago, he continues to be celebrated whenever he attends public functions i...
