The Governor of Delta, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa has said consistent prayers to God would bring solutions to the challenges of Nigeria.

He spoke on Friday in Asaba when he played host to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon who led members of Nigeria Prays to pay him a courtesy visit.

According to Governor Okowa, at such a challenging time that our country is in, I believe that as Nigerians, we must realise that the only answer to our challenges is prayers because our country actually needs healing, our country needs God's intervention and until we continually call on the name of the Lord to intervene, we may not be able to find all the solutions that we seek.

"I think that it is important that as we pray and praise the Lord, we should continue to drive this into the consciousness of every Nigerian particularly the Christiandom, which means that we have to continue to pray for our nation.

"Nigeria needs to be healed of so many things as at today."Governor Okowa commended General Gowon for his commitment to praying and working for a better Nigeria.

He stated, "you are here for a very important assignment, an assignment that touches on the soul of Nigeria; you have spent the greatest part of your life praying for Nigeria and we are happy with the evengalism that follows the prayer.

"We thank God for keeping you and we thank you for starting this programme and being able to sustain it because, in our state, we have trusted God to intervene and will continue to trust God.

"We will continue to pray and God has continued to answer our prayers; there is no limit to the number of prayers we make and I urge all Deltans and all Nigerians to continue to pray to God; He is able to heal our land."

General Gowon had told Governor Okowa and members of the state Executive Council who witnessed the event that he and members of his team were in Asaba for the South South edition of Nigeria Prays.

He thanked Governor Okowa for his administration's achievements and providing the enabling environment for the prayer to take place in Asaba.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
