EPISTEMOLOGICAL OVERVIEW OF 2023 AND POWER ROTATION IN DELTA STATE

David Ricardo true to classicism, saw the social system of his time as permanent. He thought of social organization as something that had changed materially in the past but had reached maturity and would not change materially in the future.

The reality, nonetheless, is that every well-ordered scheme is in a constant state of flux, tending always to a well-balanced arrangement of things. Every endeavour is constantly threatened by circumstances that work at cross-purposes to the attainment of equilibrium under the guidance of natural law. Most social phenomenal are in constant state of flux, they change in general ways that precedes the establishment of a new order or direction of action. And the unwritten policy of power rotation in the State cannot be insulated from changes and uncertainty.

Politics is competition for political power. It is a rivalry for the capacity to influence or determine official governmental decision making and action on questions of public policy. Under a free and competitive, constitutional democratic political regime, different individuals, groups and organizations within the society engage in political competition; they compete for political power. Most political competitions are usually fought out. Like in nature, in politics, it is the fittest that survives the competition

In sports, business and even politics, identity matters – for better or worse! Since identity matters for political leaders selecting winning candidates is crucial. Unlike in the past, political parties in the State are going to choose a candidate that can win, because they are going to face fierce political competition, and better candidates become those who will get the job done and bring victory to their party.

Since the beginning of this democratic dispensation, there has been no time that only people from one senatorial district contested among themselves at the primary. There have always been contestants from other senatorial districts and 2023 will not different. So, whoever that is interested, especially from Delta central will need to gird his or her loin, because the competition for 2023 will be fierce. It will be the survival of the fittest.

In 2023 political parties are more likely to choose winning candidates rather than just loyalists or by zoning, because of the expected strong competition from the opposition. We should all put this at the back of our minds. Gubernatorial ticket will not come on a platter. It will be fought for. After then, we will know whether political competition produces better governance.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
