DELTA ASSEMBLY PASSES 9 OUT OF 14 BILLS RECEIVED IN ONE YEAR


 
The Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, says the Seventh Assembly, of the Delta State House of Assembly received 14 bills between June 2019 and June 2020.

Oborevwori said this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the Assembly to commemorate the first anniversary of the Seventh Assembly on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that out of the 14 bills received by the Assembly during the period, nine bills were passed while the remaining five were at various committees’ stages.

The Speaker said that out of the 14 bills, 10 of them were Executive bills, while the remaining four were private members’ bills.

Oborevwori also disclosed that during the period under review, the Assembly received and passed 66 motions.

The Speaker also said that despite the  outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic and the attendant health risk, the leadership of the Assembly in line with the state’s government guidelines and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols, ensured that the House sat at plenary to consider and pass critical finance bills.

“These bills have been able to effectively position the State in these trying times.

“Some of these bills are:  the Delta State Fiscal Responsibility Amendment Law, the Delta State Public Procurement law and the Delta State revised Appropriation law,” he said.

Oborevwori also said that the Assembly with the cooperation of the Executive was able to achieve and recorded some progress, especially, in the area of enhancing legislative competence of members and staff in the discharge of their duties.

He said that after the inauguration of the Seventh Assembly, the House constituted 30 special and outstanding committees.

He said that this was in line with the provisions of Section 103 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.

Oborevwori also said that the members of the Assembly actively engaged in constituency visits and town hall meetings.

He added that this was to feel the pulse of their constituents by receiving feedbacks as well as promoting government programmes and policies.

Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a 12-member Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy (PACPM), tasked with recommending individuals eligible for presidential pardons from criminal convictions. GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI APPOINTS OSEJI AS DELTA HEAD OF SERVICE

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Minimim Oseji as the new Head of Service. Her appointment follows the retirement of Mr. Reginald Bayoko, who served in the position for nearly nine years. Dr. Oseji, a medical doctor, was previously the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and had also served as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health. In 2020, she was elected as the 22nd National President of the Medical Women's Association of Nigeria (MWAN).
