Dr. Wisdom Iboyitete, the kidnapped Principal Medical Officer at
Ojobo General Hospital in Burutu Local
Government Area of Delta State, has regained freedom.
He was said to have been released by his abductors in the early
hours of today (Sunday).
Dr. Iboyitete was kidnapped between late Sunday night and the early
hours of Monday by arms-wielding gunmen at the hospital premises.
The medical doctor was forcefully whisked away to unknown destination
through the creeks in the community.
The Delta State National Association of Government General
Medical and Dental Practitioners
(NAGGMDP) had since declared indefinite strike to protest abduction of the
doctor.
Similarly, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has also
directed its members in the state to down tools if the victim was not released
before Monday June 8, 2020.
The State Secretary of NAGGMDP, Dr. Ikechukwu Okoh, confirmed
the released of the doctor to our correspondent on
Sunday.
He said the victim had just been released when contacted at
about 1:33pm on Sunday.
Dr. Okoh, who could not immediately give details of the release,
promised to avail our correspondent with
further information later.
Recall
that the kidnappers had earlier demanded N5 million ransom for the release of
the medical doctor on Wednesday.
It was not clear if ransom was paid to
secure the release of the Dr. Iboyitete as of the time of filing this report.
