From then till date, important and high profile Nigerians have contracted the coronavirus. Among these high profile Nigerians are six governors, spread across the geopolitical divide in Nigeria.

Among the governors are Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, who got in contact with Mallam Abba Kyari, former chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. Abba Kyari has died and buried. Bala has, however, recovered and back to his office. Then, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state. He tested positive but has also recovered.

In the same vein, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state tested positive and like others, he has recovered too. Now, the latest three are Governor of Abia State, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu. He is said to have diabetes and is being treated in Abuja, the nation’s capital. He is said to have been in treatment for up to 30 days.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state is the fifth governor who tested positive. He said he is fine and healthy. He has not displayed any symptoms of the virus, though he tested positive. And just this morning, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state was reported to have tested positive to the lethal virus.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
