AFTER COLLECTING FROM OKOWA KEN PELA ABANDONS CASE, As Omo-Agege Keeps Sheriff Victory In Question

Undoubtedly, after collecting from Okowa, the Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Delta State, Pela Kennedy has abandoned the petition he filed against Sheriff Oborevwori and the PDP at the governorship election petition Tribunal.

Pela had earlier filed a petition challenging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's victory. However, the Tribunal dismissed Pela’s case on the grounds of abandonment, having failed to apply for pre-hearing notices/forms.

Although Ken Pela’s petition has been dismissed, the situation is not completely resolved for Sheriff Oborevwori and PDP. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is still at the Tribunal confidently and solidly challenging Oborevwori’s selection by INEC officials.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta has continued his challenge to the erroneous selection of the PDP candidate as the winner of the governorship election. This means that there is still a long way to go in the legal battle over the governorship election in Delta State.

In today's proceedings, Alex Iziyon, SAN, the head of Ovie Omo-Agege and APC legal team, was to tender more documents and call an expert witness. However, this did not happen due to the bulky nature of the documents that needed to be tendered, which the witness will refer to. The legal team, therefore, asked for an adjournment until Monday, 10th, July, 2023 so that the documents can be tendered and witnesses called. Only three witnesses are expected to be called. The tribunal, therefore adjourned the case to Monday, 10th, 11th, and 12th for further hearing.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege's challenge adds a major complexity to the political situation in Delta State. The outcome of this ongoing case will determine whether or not Sheriff Oborevwori's selection stands or if there will be further legal proceedings or even a possible review of the election results.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
