THE WEEK AT THE DELTA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTORAL TRIBUNAL


In a resumed hearing of the petition filed at the election tribunal by Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, challenging the declaration of Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner selected by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. In his bid to tender INEC forms, Bello Abu, counsel for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, reflected on the schedule submitted on July 10, 2023. 

The tribunal was informed by Mr. Abu, who represented Ovie Omo-Agege, that there were 1036 EC25B, 941 EC40A, 880 EC40B, and 871 EC40C forms. 

Furthermore, he submitted the Certified True Copy (CTC) payment receipts for the EC25 and EC40 series forms, the INEC Manual for Electoral Administrators, the original CTC for the INEC Rules and Guidelines for the Conduct of the 2022 Elections, and payment receipts as evidence. 

Counsel for Sheriff Oborevwori and the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Ekeme Ohwovworiole SAN, contested the admission of 3,728 Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) forms EC25B, EC40A, EC40B, and EC40C across the 25 local government areas of the state. Counsel for the 2nd and 3rd Respondents challenged the admissibility of the documents, reserving details for their final written arguments. 

However, INEC's Rules and Guidelines for the Conduct of the 2023 Elections were not challenged by counsel for the 2nd and 3rd respondents. 

Upon admitting the documents into evidence, the three-member tribunal adjourned the case until July 24 for further proceedings.
