ADDRESSING THE RELEASE OF THE KING of EWU KINGDOM FROM MILITARY DETENTION

The release of Ovie Clement Ikolo, the King of Ewu kingdom from military detention serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by marginalized communities and the importance of effective leadership in addressing their grievances.

The release of the King has sparked various sentiments within the State. This event has exposed the apparent lack of capacity for engagement and concern for pressing governance issues by the governor and the state government.

At the critical moment of the release, the governor was preoccupied with other matters, exemplified by his attendance at Cairo's funeral in Agbor. The conspicuous absence of either the governor or state representatives during the release of His Royal Majesty further underscored their detachment from the situation.

The timely action taken by the three Senators in securing the release of the Ewu King highlights the potential impact of effective leadership. Their intervention prevented the prolonged confinement of the king, demonstrating a proactive approach to addressing critical issues. It is evident that such decisive action should have been initiated by the state government, reflecting a failure in local diplomacy and governance.

However, amidst expressions of gratitude towards the Senators, it is essential to acknowledge that their actions should not overshadow the underlying challenges faced by the Okuama community. The arrest of the king was not merely an isolated incident but a reflection of broader issues of oppression and displacement faced by the Urhobo  people. The deliberate attempt to silence and subjugate the Urhobo people cannot be overlooked or dismissed.

Okuama remains an occupied territory, with its people displaced and marginalized. The prevailing conspiracy of silence surrounding their plight serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and recognition. Therefore, while we extend our appreciation to the Senators for their leadership, it is crucial to remain vigilant and continue advocating for the rights and well-being of the Okuama community.

It is imperative for the Delta State Government to prioritize local diplomacy and governance, ensuring that the voices of all communities are heard and their concerns addressed. Only through concerted efforts can we strive towards a more just and inclusive society.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
