DELTA PDP REFUTES DEFECTION RUMOURS, REAFFIRMS GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI'S COMMITMENT TO GOOD GOVERNANCE

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has categorically dismissed rumours circulating on social media that the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is planning to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a strongly worded statement issued by the State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka JP, the party described the rumors as “mischievous, sinister, and baseless,” emphasizing that such claims are designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension.

The statement labeled the allegations as the handiwork of "jobless political hirelings" and "failed agents of destabilization and treachery" acting on behalf of their sponsors. Chief Arenyeka condemned the individuals behind the rumors, describing them as impostors who lack credibility and are not genuine members of the PDP. He stated unequivocally that Governor Oborevwori remains a loyal and dedicated member of the PDP and that the baseless rumors are attempts to undermine the administration’s focus and achievements.

“We particularly state in clear terms that the faceless group of individuals spreading the rumors and parading themselves as concerned leaders of the PDP are impostors and have no connection to our great party,” the statement read. “The vile and wicked propaganda by these depraved perpetrators, particularly the key peddler of this falsehood – a notorious serial blackmailer – is not only dishonest but demonstrates the depths some will sink for personal gain.”

Commitment to the MORE Agenda

The PDP leadership used the opportunity to reaffirm Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to his M.O.R.E agenda, which prioritizes social infrastructure, economic growth, and human capital development across the state. The party stated that the governor remains undistracted by the antics of detractors and focused on delivering meaningful and sustainable development for all Deltans.

According to Chief Arenyeka, the governor’s achievements so far are evidence of his dedication to providing good governance and improving the lives of citizens. Projects under the M.O.R.E agenda have made significant strides in boosting the state’s development, earning accolades from stakeholders and citizens alike.

Call for Public Support

The PDP called on members of the public to disregard the “dubious speculation” and urged them to continue supporting the party and the governor’s administration. The statement emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership represents the best interests of Delta State and remains firmly anchored within the ideals and principles of the PDP.

“We urge Deltans to ignore these unfounded rumors and instead focus on supporting the governor as he continues to implement impactful projects and policies for the benefit of the people,” the statement continued. “The PDP in Delta State remains strong, united, and committed to the progress and prosperity of our state.”

The statement concluded with a rallying call for unity and resilience:

“Long live the PDP. Long live Delta State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Signed:

Chief Solomon Arenyeka JP

Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
