RESPONSE TO NED NWOKO'S: "GOVERNOR SHERIFF IS VERY UNPOPULAR"

Senator Ned Nwoko’s comments about Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are not only misleading but also a clear reflection of personal grievances rather than objective facts. It is evident that his sudden defection to the APC has come with a need to discredit the current administration, but let’s examine the facts and expose the contradictions in his argument.

1. POPULARITY AND RECOGNITION

Senator Nwoko claims Governor Oborevwori is "unpopular" and unknown outside Delta State. However, Governor Oborevwori was speaker for six years and his resounding victory at the polls, despite legal battles up to the Supreme Court, proves otherwise. His MORE Agenda—which prioritizes development, security, and economic growth—resonates with the people of Delta. Popularity is not measured by how often one is seen in Abuja but by how well one delivers on governance.

2. COMPETENCE AND PERFORMANCE

The attempt to paint Governor Oborevwori as incapable of managing Delta’s resources is laughable. In less than two years, the Governor has continued massive infrastructural projects, supported local businesses, and ensured the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions. Delta State remains one of the few states in Nigeria that has continued to thrive economically despite national economic challenges.

3. HYPOCRISY AND POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM

Ned Nwoko speaks of accountability, yet he was part of the same PDP-led government he now condemns. If Delta was as mismanaged as he claims, why did he remain silent while benefiting from the system? His sudden defection to the APC and attack on Governor Oborevwori suggest political opportunism rather than genuine concern for Delta State.

4. APC’S EMPTY PROMISES

Nwoko’s declaration that the APC will take over Delta State is wishful thinking. The people of Delta are politically conscious and will carefully evaluate their options based on leadership performance, policies, and the overall impact on their well-being. They will not be easily swayed by politicians who frequently switch allegiances in pursuit of personal ambition rather than genuine service to the people. Deltans have witnessed the consequences of opportunistic politics and will remain vigilant against those who seek power for self-interest rather than the collective progress of the state.

5. FOCUS ON GOVERNANCE, NOT POLITICAL DISTRACTIONS

Governor Oborevwori remains focused on delivering democratic dividends to Deltans. Unlike some politicians who seek power for self-interest, the Governor is committed to inclusive governance, infrastructural development, and the economic prosperity of the state.

Ned Nwoko’s outburst is nothing more than the frustration of a man who expected undue political privileges but did not get them. Delta State deserves constructive criticism, not baseless attacks driven by political realignment. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is here to serve, and the people of Delta stand with him.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
