GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI'S PROJECT TOUR: Ensuring Quality, Driving Inclusion

In line with his administration's commitment to professionalism and quality in infrastructural delivery, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori recently embarked on an extensive inspection of ongoing projects across Delta State. His three-day tour covered all three senatorial districts, ensuring that every Deltan and resident receives value for money in government investments.

Among the key projects inspected were:

  • The Commissioners' Quarters in Asaba, featuring eight units of four-bedroom duplexes with attached boys' quarters.
  • The Ogwashi-Uku Bridge at the Ubu River, a crucial component of the Ughelli-Asaba dualization project.
  • The Ellu/Ovrode/Ofagbe Road, a strategic link for rural and urban connectivity.
  • The College of Health Sciences at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Orerokpe Campus.
During his tour, Governor Oborevwori also assessed the Model Technical College in Omadino, Warri South LGA, the Central Hospital in Warri, and the three flyovers at Enerhen Junction, PTI Junction, and DSC Roundabout, where he expressed satisfaction with the level of work done. Recognizing the need for improved healthcare infrastructure, he announced at the Central Hospital, Warri, the procurement of eight dialysis machines and CT scans for hospitals across the state, expected to arrive by the end of March. The Central Hospital Warri and Asaba Specialist Hospital will each receive three dialysis machines, while the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, will get two.

Addressing concerns about alleged payments demanded from under-five patients and pregnant women at Warri Central Hospital, Governor Oborevwori stated that management denied the claims but encouraged citizens to use the whistleblower linereaffirming his zero-tolerance policy for malpractice.

Other projects inspected included:

  • The Orerokpe-Okuloho-Oviri-Okpe Road and stormwater drainage at Ugolo-Okpe Junction in Okpe LGA.
  • The Orere River Bridge and access roads in Orere Town, Ughelli South LGA.
  • The Ohoror/Bomadi/Gbaregolor Road, linking five local government areas: Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Bomadi, and Burutu.
  • The construction of roads around Otowodo Junction in Ughelli North, including Uduere Street, Okogbe Street, Ogu Street, Edo Street, Royal Avenue, and Agbarha Road, which connect the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway to the Ughelli-Patani (East-West Road).

At the Orere Bridge site, the governor urged contractors to accelerate work to ensure timely completion, emphasizing its importance to the 15 communities along that corridor. He also visited Okowa Crescent in Ughelli, where road construction is in progress.

Ensuring Development in Riverine Communities

The Governor extended his inspection to riverine communities, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to all-round development under the MORE Agenda. He inspected:

  • A lecture hall at the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko.
  • Internal roads in Kokodiama and drainage systems in Kurutie, Warri South West LGA.
  • The Model Secondary School in Ogulagha, Burutu LGA, a long-standing project that is now near completion.

Accompanied by key government officials, including the immediate past Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the governor assured the riverine communities that they remain a priority in his administration’s development plans.

Fielding questions from journalists, he noted that contractors had been mobilized with 25% of their contract sum, leading to significant progress. He cited the Maritime University lecture hall, which the contractor assured would be completed before the end of the month.

“We dedicated today to inspecting projects in the riverine areas because we can’t focus only on upland development while neglecting these vital communities,” he stated.

On the Model Secondary School in Ogulagha, Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with its quality, describing it as one of the best model schools in the riverine region. Having been under construction since 2013, he noted that efforts by the immediate past administration helped push the project forward, and now, it is set for commissioning in two weeks.

A Commitment to Sustainable Development

Governor Oborevwori’s inspection tour underscores his administration’s dedication to balanced and inclusive development across Delta State. By ensuring quality execution of projectsimproved healthcare services, and infrastructure expansion in both upland and riverine communities, his government is steadily advancing its MORE Agenda, striving to enhance the quality of life for all Deltans.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

THE ENDURING LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP: Chief James Ibori Celebrated for His Impact on Delta State

On Friday, May 31st, during the funeral service for the Late Asagba of Asaba, the essence of true leadership was vividly displayed. The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State. Despite having left office seventeen years ago, he continues to be celebrated whenever he attends public functions i...
