Zoning Sustains PDP’s Dominance in Delta – Onyeme …As Speaker Guwor, Oscar Ibru, Others Attend Inauguration of Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency Forum

UGHELLI – Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, has emphasized that the zoning of political offices, particularly the governorship, has been instrumental in sustaining political stability and reinforcing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s dominance in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency Forum at Oharisi Primary School, Ughelli, Onyeme stated that as the 2027 elections approach, zoning remains a vital mechanism for equitable power distribution across Delta’s diverse ethnic groups.

"Delta has enjoyed peace because we embraced governorship rotation early, and it has worked well for us since 1999. Every governor has completed two terms, and this time will not be different. Governor Oborevwori is delivering massive infrastructure projects with Julius Berger and other reputable firms, and Deltans can see the results," Onyeme asserted.

PDP Reaffirms Support for Governor Oborevwori

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, declared that the Federal Constituency remains solidly behind Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and will ensure his re-election in 2027.

"Today’s gathering is a demonstration of our unity and determination to return Governor Oborevwori to Government House. The PDP will sweep all eight local government areas in Delta Central with overwhelming support," he assured.

Similarly, Delta PDP Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, commended the Governor’s infrastructural strides, affirming that the party was poised to reclaim the Federal Constituency and strengthen its grip on Delta politics.

Welcoming attendees, Chief Jaro Egbo, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government, described the Forum’s formation as a milestone in fostering participatory democracy, good governance, and sustainable development in the constituency.

"This Forum is a platform for unity and progressive governance. Let us work together, regardless of party affiliations, to build a constituency that exemplifies inclusive leadership in Delta State," he urged.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment.
