On Monday, April 15, 2025, a significant political gathering took place at the Warri residence of High Chief Michael Johnny, where leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Delta State's Ijaw extraction convened to deliberate on pressing issues confronting their political family. The meeting, which drew together APC leaders, local government party chairmen, women leaders, and other critical stakeholders, provided a platform for open discussions and strategic resolutions aimed at strengthening the Delta Ijaw APC bloc and amplifying its voice within the national political space.
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the collective resolve of the Delta State Ijaw APC family to push for greater inclusion in federal appointments, especially within the South South Development Commission (SSDC). The leaders expressed deep concern over the historical and ongoing marginalization of the Ijaw people in strategic federal positions, particularly within agencies created to address the developmental challenges of the South-South region.
To address this gap, the Delta Ijaw APC made a passionate appeal to President Tinubu, urging him to consider appointing an Ijaw person as the Managing Director of the SSDC. They argued that such an appointment would not only help to redress the glaring imbalance in federal representation but also reflect the vital contributions and sacrifices made by the Ijaw people towards national unity and regional development.
The Delta State Ijaw APC leadership also unanimously passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as his bold leadership and reform-driven agenda. They also extended their unflinching support for Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, and Hon. Alapala Anthony Ebitonmo, member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. According to the group, the two legislators have, in just a few years, shown commendable commitment to delivering democratic dividends and quality representation to the people.
The gathering ended with a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and political direction among the Ijaw APC stakeholders in Delta State. Their commitment to continued dialogue, internal cohesion, and strategic engagement with the central government underscores a growing political maturity within the group—one that is determined to ensure the Ijaw voice is heard, respected, and meaningfully represented in the corridors of power.
One minute silence was observed to honour Late Papa EK Clark and Late Party patriot Chief Christopher Porbeni
