In a heartfelt moment of reflection and gratitude, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori marked his 62nd birthday not with pomp and pageantry, but with praise, thanksgiving, and a renewed call for unity. Speaking at the Government House Chapel in Asaba during a morning worship session, the Governor opened up about the overwhelming outpouring of love from Deltans and Nigerians across political, ethnic, and religious lines.
Quoting Psalm 100:4, the Governor said, “We enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. That is what I have come to do, to thank God.” He extended appreciation to political associates, friends, well-wishers, and citizens across the country for their birthday messages, prayers, and goodwill advertisements in newspapers, on television, and on radio.
“Your kind messages, prayers, and thoughtful adverts truly warmed my heart and made my day extra special,” he said. “Even those who did not support me politically still wished me well, showing a deep sense of love and maturity. I thank you all.”
Governor Oborevwori, who is known for preferring low-key celebrations, humorously noted his attempt to avoid festivities this year, only to be pleasantly surprised by family and friends. “I tried to keep it quiet, but my wife and some friends were in on the plan,” he said with a smile. “I was a bit upset at first, but their love and persistence moved me.”
Emphasizing unity and leadership, he urged Deltans to continue praying for the state and its leaders, stressing that decisions rooted in prayer and unity are unshakable. “Let us stay united; you cannot pray and then curse. With unity, more development will come. The love you’ve shown me must be repaid with service and appreciation.”
Acknowledging prominent Nigerians who sent greetings through various media, he added, “I was overwhelmed by the number of people who reached out. Only God can truly reward such love.”
Governor Oborevwori concluded with a prayer: “May joy, peace, and blessings never depart from your lives. In Jesus’ name, I pray.”
