LONDON, July 13 — Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died. He was 82.
The news of his passing was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, who disclosed that the former leader died in a clinic in London, United Kingdom.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” Shehu posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide, also shared the news via his social media handle.
At the time of this report, further details regarding the cause of death and funeral arrangements had not been made public.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, after previously ruling as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985.
