LEADING WITH PURPOSE: Oborevwori and the Power of Intentional Governance

In the ever-demanding arena of politics, leadership is often subject to scrutiny. For Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, criticism has come in waves, with detractors branding his administration as slow, lacking impact, or even incompetent. But a closer, fact-based examination tells a very different story: one of focused leadership, deliberate planning, and steadily unfolding progress.

The truth is, the Oborevwori administration is quietly but effectively transforming Delta State. Anchored on the MORE Agenda, the government is executing a long-term strategy that goes beyond quick wins or media stunts. This vision is not built on noise; it is grounded in sustainable development, inclusive governance, and strategic investment.

Tangible Progress: ₦230 Billion in New Projects

Critics who say “nothing is happening” either aren’t paying attention or are deliberately ignoring the facts. Just on July 22, 2025, the Delta State Executive Council approved a landmark ₦230 billion for vital infrastructure and development projects. These include:

₦59.7 billion for a flyover at Uromi Junction in Agbor

₦39.3 billion for another flyover at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli

Significant funding for the Kolokolo–Tisun Road in Warri North

Major investments in health, energy, and riverine infrastructure

These are not token gestures. They are deliberate, strategic investments aimed at enhancing connectivity, stimulating local economies, and addressing long-standing developmental gaps, especially in historically marginalized communities.

Beyond Infrastructure: Building Human Capital and Stability

Progress in Delta State isn’t just about roads and bridges. It’s also about people. The Oborevwori administration has been quietly overhauling schools, hospitals, and other critical services that form the backbone of any healthy society. Investments in healthcare equipment, teacher training, primary healthcare expansion, and education infrastructure point to a government that is thinking long-term.

On the security front, Governor Oborevwori has continued to strengthen community relations and coordinate effectively with security agencies, fostering an atmosphere of peace necessary for growth and investment. Youth empowerment programs and support for small businesses have also gained momentum, laying the groundwork for inclusive economic development.

Leadership in a Complex Environment

Governing Delta State with its ethnic diversity, geopolitical complexity, and development disparities is no easy task. It requires balance, patience, and strategy. Governor Oborevwori’s leadership may not always make headlines, but it is making a difference. His approach reflects intentional governance, one that prioritizes planning over populism and substance over sensation.

Real growth, after all, is never instant. It demands meticulous preparation, broad stakeholder engagement, and consistent delivery. The foundation being laid now will yield exponential benefits in the near future, if given the chance to mature.

From Critics to Collaborators: A Call for Constructive Engagement

To be clear, criticism is not a bad thing, it is essential in any democracy. But criticism must be fair, informed, and solution-driven. Unfounded allegations of incompetence or inaction only distract from the real work being done and risk creating unnecessary division among Deltans.

Instead of resorting to sensationalism, why not hold government accountable by engaging constructively? Ask for transparency. Demand timelines. Recommend improvements. That is how we strengthen institutions and policies, not by tearing down progress with half-truths and personal attacks.

A Shared Responsibility for Progress

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is not perfect,  no leader is. But he is focused, pragmatic, and committed to moving Delta forward. The ₦230 billion investment just approved is not just a number; it is a symbol of a government working, deliberately, for its people.

Now is the time for unity. Now is the time for collaboration. Rather than pulling in different directions, Deltans must rise above cynicism and support policies and initiatives that promise a better future. The MORE Agenda is not a slogan — it is a structured pathway toward a Delta that works for everyone.

We stand with Governor Oborevwori and his team. Not because they are above critique, but because they are earnestly charting a course toward sustainable development. Let us match their commitment with our own, through vigilance, engagement, and unity.

Delta’s future is in our hand.
