DELTA APC Repositions for 2027 as Sheriff Oborevwori Charges New Leadership to Deliver Total Victory

The political landscape in Delta State shifted decisively on Tuesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, signalling a renewed march toward what Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described as “total victory” in the 2027 general elections.

Emerging by consensus at the Delta APC State Congress held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Chief Arenyeka now leads a newly constituted State Working Committee (SWC) tasked with consolidating the party’s structure and expanding its grassroots dominance across the State. The congress, marked by unity and broad consultations, reflected what party leaders described as a maturing internal democracy anchored on inclusion rather than imposition.

A Congress of Consensus and Cohesion

Chief Arenyeka’s emergence was part of a broader consensus arrangement that produced a full complement of state executives. Elder Moses Iduh was elected Deputy Chairman, while Chief Efe Uko assumed the role of State Secretary.

Other key officers include Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Delta Central Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba as Delta South Chairman, Engr. Daniel Ossai as Delta North Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary, Mrs Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader, and Christopher Agali as State Youth Leader, among others.

Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba declared the executives duly elected following their affirmation by delegates, noting that the process had strictly complied with the party’s constitution and established guidelines.

The tone for the transition was set earlier when former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee. Seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, the motion received unanimous endorsement from delegates, paving the way for a seamless leadership renewal.

Oborevwori: From Realignment to Unstoppable Movement

Addressing party faithful, Governor Oborevwori expresses his deep appreciation to the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sob,otie for guiding the party through what he described as a defining transition period following the political realignment of April 2025.

“What began as a principled decision to align Delta State with the renewed vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has evolved into a powerful and unstoppable political movement,” the Governor declared.

He commended party members for their discipline and resilience, emphasising that the peaceful conduct of congresses across 270 wards and 25 local government areas underscored the APC’s commitment to participatory leadership.

“There was no imposition. What we witnessed was broad consultation, agreement, and inclusiveness. This structure belongs to all of us,” he stated.

With 2027 firmly in view, Oborevwori charged the new executive to intensify grassroots mobilisation, institutionalise regular meetings, and expand voter engagement.

“Our mission is unequivocal. We must secure victory at every level - the Presidency, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Governorship, and the State House of Assembly,” he said, expressing confidence that Delta APC would deliver massive votes for President Tinubu and all party candidates.

MORE Agenda as Political Capital

The Governor reiterated that his administration remains anchored on transparency, accountability, and measurable performance under the MORE Agenda. He highlighted strides recorded in infrastructure expansion, healthcare modernisation, educational development, youth empowerment, agricultural growth, enhanced security architecture, and human capital development.

Party stakeholders believe that these governance achievements will form the backbone of APC’s electoral messaging heading into 2027.

A Call for Humility and Collective Leadership

In his remarks, the immediate past State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the congress as the culmination of collective sacrifice and unity.

“In politics, what we have is not ‘I’ but ‘we.’ The interest of the people is more important than personal interests,” he said, urging the new leadership to prioritise humility and service. “Ability may take a man to the top, but humility keeps him there.”

He expressed confidence that the party, in its present configuration, was formidable enough to overwhelm any opposition.

Arenyeka Accepts the Mantle

In his acceptance speech, Chief Solomon Arenyeka thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him and the newly elected SWC.

“I am fully aware of the weight of this responsibility and do not take it lightly. We consider ourselves privileged to serve, and we pledge to justify the confidence imposed in us,” he assured.

Arenyeka pledged to uphold the core values of hard work, integrity, transparency, teamwork, and consensus-building. He paid glowing tribute to Governor Oborevwori for what he described as exemplary and unifying leadership, promising that under his chairmanship, Delta APC would become a model for other states.

“We have heard the marching orders from our leader. By God’s grace, we shall deliver all APC candidates in the 2027 elections,” he declared.

A Party Poised for Battle

With a charged atmosphere of celebration and renewed solidarity, the congress drew party leaders and stakeholders from across Delta State and beyond. The emergence of the new leadership signals not merely a routine party exercise but the formal launch of an ambitious political project — one aimed at consolidating power, deepening internal cohesion, and securing electoral dominance in 2027.

For the Delta APC, the message from Asaba was clear: the campaign has begun.
