B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G NEWS:- AG Adoke Directs Immediate Swearing of Former Deputy as Governor of Adamawa State

Ngilari

Attorney General of the Federation And Minister of Justice Mohammed Bello Adoke has directed Adamawa State Chief Judge to swear-In Mr.Bala Ngilari [pictured] As Governor without delay. The AG further directs INEC to put on hold this Saturday Governorship Bye-Election in the State.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal Hugh Court, Abuja this morning sacked Acting Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja delivered its verdict on Fintiri on the grounds that the former Deputy Governor, Bala Ngilari did not resign from his office as the Deputy Governor in accordance with the Constitution.

Ngilari, former deputy to removed Governor Murtala Nyako had filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order compelling his swearing in as the governor of the state.
He had asked the court to declare his resignation letter dated July 14, 2014 and addressed to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, as illegal, null and void.
In his suit, marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/545/14, the plaintiff argued that his resignation letter was in breach of the provisions of sections 306(1), (2) and (5) of the 1999 Constitution because it was addressed to the Speaker and acted upon by the House of Assembly
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday morning, Justice Adeniji said Ngilari did not resign in accordance with Section 306 (1) (2) and (5) of the country.
The Judge declared Fintiri’s occupation of the Governor’s office as illegal and ordered the State’s Chief Judge or President of the Customary Court of Appeal to swear in Ngilari forthwith.
He stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting bye-election into the Governor’s office which they had earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
