With President Buhari out of the country, the
first lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari accompanied by wife of the vice president of the
nation, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo attended a dinner at the presidential
villa, Abuja.
The event brought out the political wives and
important women in the new administration including the wife of new Senate
president Toyin Saraki.
Also at the event was Senator Binta
Masi-Garba and every one of these astounding ladies looked stunning and ready
for their various responsibilities.
Meanwhile at the dinner which she hosted
for Nigerian women and youths as an appreciation dinner for their
support toward her husband’s victory in the last general election.
She urged lawmakers for more female representatives
and said that she was concerned that the number of elected women in
governance had reduced drastically in this new dispensation, saying that
National and State Assemblies are the worst hit.
“We must all make case for the fair
representation of women and other challenges facing them especially the high
rate of divorcees in the North and harmful widowhood practices in some part of
the South East
She also cried out on the amount of young
women getting divorced and also said that the amount of sexual harassment
of female students in universities needs to be checked.
Mrs Buhari then went forward to blast out the
news going around that she was kept in the purdah (Islamic seculation) by
her husband during the last Presidential campaigns.
She revealed that it was her personal decision
not to campaign because she needed to take care of her home as her husband was
away.
“It was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who talked me into
it before I decided to join the train.
“I have never been in purdah since I got
married to my husband.
“My
husband is a very gender sensitive man with many daughters.
“He even allowed me to go to school and to cut the long matter short, he is the pillar of my success.”

Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo thanked
the women for their support and asked them to not stop promoting national
unity.
Also in attendence was APC Women Leader,
Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, who said that the party leadership must ensure that they
deliver on the change they had promised Nigerians.
In attendence were Mr Rotimi
Amaechi, Mrs Toyin Saraki, Mrs Gimbia Dogara, Mrs Victoria
Odigie-Oyegun.
While APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu, was represented at the occasion by Sen. Babafemi Ojudu.
