Two topics are intertwined
in this thread. I like to comment on both. On Sowore, I agree with Justice
Ojukwu that it is a pity that nobody is ready to stand as Sowore’s surety. Why is
this so?
My guess is that the
problem is not of Sowore’s making but of the vindictive Nigerian government
under Mr. Buhari. The government has terrorized the citizens to the extent that
nobody is courageous enough to stand against the government’s position. It is
too dangerous.
My other guess is that the
court system is too pro-government that the goal in any prosecution is to give
ruling in favor of the government, that a surety is bound to lose his deposited
amount on technical grounds. The lack of a surety for a respected citizen like
Sowore speaks volumes to the state of justice in Nigeria.
On the special treatment
for cattle breeders, I like the position of Mr. Onuorah although his rambling
into American support of Israel, and other topics blurred his analysis.
The problem with special
treatment for cattle breeders is that the Mayeti organizations have set
themselves above the law and PMB’s government has come to regard the
organization as truly above the law. When cattlemen can take over a farmer’s
land and if opposed kill the farmer, why will the breeders be supported with
our tax money.
Most people have called for
the boycotting of all cattle meat to protect the lives of Nigerians. When the
government puts the interest of ALL farmers in perspective then, a special treatment
for some segments could be appropriate. But for now, it seems to be a choice
between cattle farmers and the lives of vegetable farmers.
By the way the protein from
goats, sheep, chicken, etc. is as good as or even better than the red meat from
a cow.
