DISAPPOINTING START FOR INTERIM GOVERNOR SHERIFF OBOREVWORI

Interim Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's first 100 days in office have been met with deep disappointment by Delta State residents. This initial period has been characterized as dull and colourless, lacking any substantial governance initiatives that could have uplifted the State.

Deltans have valid reasons to express their frustration, as there is a notable absence of tangible accomplishments to show for the governor's administration during this time. Instead of focusing on meaningful governance, interim Governor Oborevwori appears to have been preoccupied with photo opportunities and courtesy visits, which, while they may offer a fleeting sense of activity, do not translate into concrete progress for the State.

Even the few projects commissioned during this period were not original to this administration but rather projects left behind by the previous administration. The announcement of road reconstruction in Warri was a welcome gesture, but it falls short of addressing the broader needs of the State.

One pressing concern is the lack of visible distribution of Federal Government resources for palliatives, including the trailer loads of rice. In contrast to other States where such resources were efficiently distributed to the people.

It is evident that Delta State has lagged behind in addressing the challenges posed by fuel subsidy removal compared to other states. While many States promptly initiated strategies to assist their citizens during this difficult period from day one, Delta State has appeared to lack a clear and decisive policy direction.

This lack of a coherent and immediate response has left the people of Delta State grappling with the impact of fuel subsidy removal without the necessary support and guidance from their government.

The absence of concrete efforts to alleviate rising transportation costs and improve road infrastructure only adds to the disappointment felt by residents.

It highlights the need for Delta State to swiftly develop and implement a comprehensive plan that addresses the economic hardships and uncertainties caused by subsidy removal. This will ensure that its residents are not left to muddle through without a clear sense of direction and assistance.

The absence of meaningful governance accomplishments during this critical period raises significant doubts about the direction of interim Governor Oborevwori's administration. There is a palpable lack of hope, and it is crucial for the interim governor to refocus his efforts on delivering real and impactful governance initiatives that will benefit the people of Delta State.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
