In recent days, Fejiro Oliver has been trending for his report on the achievements of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Amid this, publicity-seeking Senator Ned Nwoko has staged yet another attention-grabbing stunt—rejecting a Land Cruiser and ₦10 million offered by the state government, claiming the gift would not benefit his constituents.
This raises several questions: When did Nwoko and the state government discuss this offer—before or after his exit from the PDP? More importantly, what was the motive? Was it an incentive to lure him back or a goodwill gesture to keep him comfortable in his new party? Ultimately, this situation begs a larger question: Is governance about theatrics or tangible results?
Senator Nwoko seems to forget that he was elected to the Senate to attract federal projects for his constituents. Instead of fulfilling this responsibility, he engages in grandstanding that does little to improve the lives of the Anioma people. It is unfortunate that he does not seem embarrassed by the stark contrast between his tenure and that of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Her well-documented efforts—ranging from commissioning multiple projects to initiating massive empowerment programs—speak volumes. She has facilitated the establishment of five CNG plants in Kogi State and is working to bring the federal fire service to her state. In comparison, Nwoko appears inactive in the Senate. Perhaps it is time to ask: Is Ned Nwoko a sleeping senator?
In nearly two years, what tangible progress has he delivered to his senatorial district? The answer appears to be nothing. Instead of focusing on real development for Anioma, he fixates on unrealistic dreams like the Okpai Stepdown, Ogwashi-Uku Dam, and the creation of Anioma State—an idea unlikely to materialize in the next two decades. Governance is not about empty rhetoric but results.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has prioritized the welfare of Deltans through accountability, fiscal responsibility, and developmental impact. Senator Nwoko's allegation does nothing to diminish the governor’s commitment to the well-being of Delta North and the entire state.
Critics of Governor Oborevwori conveniently overlook the numerous infrastructural projects, economic empowerment initiatives, and social welfare programs his administration has launched since taking office. From road rehabilitations to investments in education, healthcare, and job creation, the governor has demonstrated an unrelenting commitment to progress.
Furthermore, the insinuation that his administration is driven by self-interest rather than the public good is baseless—a clear attempt to incite political discord. Governor Oborevwori welcomes constructive criticism but will not be distracted by unfounded accusations meant to score cheap political points.
Rather than engaging in unnecessary theatrics, Senator Nwoko and his supporters should focus on legislative advocacy and constituency development. Governance is a collective effort, and all elected officials should work together for the state's growth instead of seeking publicity through performative gestures.
Governor Oborevwori remains dedicated to delivering good governance, fostering inclusive development, and ensuring that every part of Delta State, including Anioma, benefits from his administration’s policies. His leadership is anchored in transparency, inclusivity, and a vision for sustainable progress.
Delta State deserves leaders who prioritize solutions over spectacle. Senator Ned Nwoko should leave Governor Oborevwori alone, focus on his legislative duties, and work on bringing real development to Anioma instead of chasing unnecessary publicity.
