GOVERNOR OKOWA’S SINCERITY IN THE GOVERNANCE OF DELTA STATE

It is true that one of the cardinal projections of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration is the vision not only to develop Delta State but take the State to utopian heights of sustainable development. And, in just one year, so much has been done to ensure the attainment of the lofty ideals it has set for itself.

One can also understand the plight and anxiety of the people of the State and why they are desperate to witness overall sustainable development.

This is so, given the level of unemployment and the hardship that is traumatising the common man on the street. It is well known everywhere that unemployment is one of the propellants to all forms of criminality in any society.

The current   estrangement between employers and their employees within the private sector are proofs that Nigeria’s economy is experiencing turbulent times. In spite of the paucity of funds, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is breaking new grounds to ensure his campaign promises materialize and when other States are owing salaries up to nine months, the workers in Delta State are enjoying their monthly benefits without hitches or delay.

Governor Okowa’s decision to develop Delta State is not a political jamboree to either persuade or cloud the electorate for votes, rather, his burning desire is to transform the State from a civil service status to a private sector driven economy.

He understands that no economy can grow without full participation of the private sector. Agriculture and manufacturing are the bedrock of genuine efforts towards becoming a developed economy. Manufacturing courts active collaboration of the private sector.

The new wave of challenge therefore, is for States in Nigeria and particularly leaders, who hold the people’s mandate in trust, to arise and evolve alternative ways of achieving sustainable economic growth and prosperity, including guaranteeing survival for its teeming populace.

In fulfilling his promise on employment and empowerment, several thousand youths have been trained by this administration on series of skills development and manpower training. From the agricultural and industrial training sponsored by the State government and other professional skills acquisition programmes, youths continue to acquire new techniques.  The starter packs in equipment and cash are so grand that no forward looking youth will complain.

Nigeria is going through trying times; the high level of employment is alarming but our people must understand that to have sustainable private sector, there is a lot of planning behind the scene.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa does not belong to the flock of politicians who believe in lying to the public to get cheap applause but working tirelessly to ensure he brings about development to the State, where unemployment will be a thing of the past.
