HOW REPUBLICS START TO FALL: An Exercise in Introspection

With APC victory over PDP, Nigerians look forward to a corrupt free government that would block all loopholes and making for an economic Eldorado. But after over two years the common man is worse shit than they were under PDP. With the happenings in the last one month, especially the Mainagate, the people have become more disillusioned about the system, even with tokenistic sack of the former SGF. The major challenge of governance in our clime is the fact that no one really fight for the general good. Once people get into government, their preoccupation becomes primitive private accumulation. No matter the background before assuming office, no one is bothered about transparency and accountability, nor the issues that will benefit the people. We are, at all times engrossed in rapacious plunder for ourselves. We have representatives and Senators who are paying themselves outlandishly, while the ordinary worker is left to live on pittance and no one seem to care about their p...

·      The Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita,  has said  President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the reinstatement of a former Chairman  of the Pension Reforms Commission, Mallam Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service. She however said she warned the President against it. Oyo-Ita said that her warning was based on the implications such reinstatement would have on the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government. The HoS stated this in her memo to the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari. The memo, with reference number HSCSF/HCSF/LU/COR/FCSC/750/T, was dated October 23, 2017. CORRUPTION: INTEGRITY OF PRESIDENT BUHARI AND THE REGIME DECLINE

Following the Maine saga most reasonable Nigerians are now disappointed in the man from Daura.Anyone who still claims not to be disappointed has either suspended common sense or mentally deranged. Buhari is surrounded by a cabal of senior officials that are even more corrupt than those who surrounded former President Jonathan. For now, the integrity of GMB and the Regime has declined with the no action yet on Osinbajo's Report. Is the SFG and the DG NIA still being paid while suspended or not? Buhari is an abysmal failure. It is a shame that, so many believed and were all taken for a ride. What a shame? At this juncture, President Buhari needs to put up or shut up on this talk about fighting corruption in Nigeria. This is the time to show resolve and make statesmanlike decisions for which he would be positively remembered in the near and distant future. The trio of senior public officials involved in Mainagate should be suspended immediately until the invest...

HIJACKING: WHAT HAMEED ALI'S RANT TELLS US ABOUT BUHARI'S GOVERNMENT

Customs Comptroller General Hameed Ali tears into President Buhari. The president should listen to him. Customs Comptroller General, Col Hameed Ali, is one of the few persons President Muhammadu Buhari proudly calls ‘friend’. They really are that close. It is little wonder that when Buhari settled into the task of putting together his kitchen cabinet after the rigours of a 2015 electioneering campaign, he naturally handpicked Ali, a retired Army Colonel, to clean up a corrupt Customs service. Like Buhari, Ali is austere, taciturn, disciplined, ascetic and possesses a disdain for corruption. Legend has it that after leaving the army top brass, Ali had only one beat up car to his name. Not for him the idiotic accumulation of wealth for which his peers in the army are better known. Ali only took up the Buhari Customs job because he couldn’t say no to an old friend—someone who shares his values. He was with Buhari during the President’s CPC and ANPP days. As Buhari lo...

WHY WERE US SOLDIERS EVEN IN NIGER? America’s shadow wars in Africa, explained.

American troops are fighting in multiple African countries without anyone back home really noticing. President Trump’s inexplicable  fight  with the widow of a Green Beret who was killed in Niger has sparked a political firestorm that shows no signs of dying down. It’s also brought new attention to a little-known aspect of Washington’s ongoing war on terror: The Pentagon is rapidly expanding its presence in Africa and is now engaged in military operations — including active combat — in more than half a dozen African countries. It’s a fight that takes place largely in the shadows, led by small teams of US special operations forces. In Somalia, Navy SEALs are  hunting  members of al-Qaeda and ISIS-linked militants from groups like al-Shabaab (one of the commandos  died  in a botched raid earlier this year). In Libya, they’re carrying out counterterror missions like the one that  captured Ahmed Abu Khattala, a militant linked to the deadly ass...
