SOCIAL MEDIA AND POLITICS: TODAY AND OUR FUTURE

Once a Symbol for Social Media at Large, Facebook’s Like Button Grows Up
With the changing times brought about by the emergence of social media, it is necessary for our people to embrace Social Media as a special opportunity from the Lord Most High to get empowered instead of a passing phase meant for gossips; watching of porn and political E-thuggery.

It is also necessary for our people to shun being induced with stipends, crumbs or peanuts to insult themselves, elders and game-changers in the name of politics... because it's counterproductive.

The present generation have the power to effect the right change and positive development if and only if they will embrace the positives of Social Media instead of living a life of waste on the cyberspace.

Just like any other trending Social phenomenon, Social Media has become the key platform for political growth and enrichment but that is only if we key into the positives of the various online platforms.

On the internet, politicians are seen maintaining good faces and image; indifferent voters are seen reading through the trending issues while the youths are unfortunately seen engaging in online thuggery; destroying their future and putting a stop to their progress.

There are more to Social Media than mere gossips and E-thuggery. While online people should shun lot of lies, blackmail and malice-coated stories about and against anyone. In the same vain, youths should not allow elders or senior politicians to lead them into insulting one another online, which could naturally destroy their future.

Politics is all about grassroots mobilization, which is when a group of individuals in a particular community come together to organize for social, political, environmental or economic change in order to make enhance the quality of their lives or the lives of others. The term "grassroots" refers to building up from the bottom and including individuals from all walks of life that share the same commitment to change. The social media is the most potent tool to get this to happen in modern time. One goal of grassroots mobilization is to reach a large number of people. This is easily done through the social media.

With the 24-hour news cycle and year-round interest in political issues, social media is now a key platform with which any politically active person can leverage their campaign on any policy issue.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment.
