SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA: A GOVERNOR ON TOP OF SITUATIONS

Per Google, achievement refers to the act of getting "something accomplished, especially by superior ability, special effort, great courage". Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is striding through despite the recession and economic downturn in the country with equanimity.

In a country where infrastructural development is now totally halted and hardworking civil servants are hardly paid due to economic hardship arising from the recession, it takes superior ability, special effort and great courage for a Governor to complete so many road projects among other infrastructures in one year and continue to pay salaries.
Those who ever doubted whether Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was a good choice as governor of the State, have found themselves reviewing such position in the last one year, especially with the way he has carried on despite the current economic recession.

Governor Okowa who is a stickler for time has carried on with every seriousness required to run government business. His grasp of issues, depth, sagacity, sublimity all tucked in a genial composure and complemented with his penchant for rib racking humour has made Governor Okowa the toast of the people.

During one of the numerous public outings two remarks were notable: “This man is intelligent”, intoned one anti-Okowa advocate who sat quietly watching him initially with sneer that eventually turned to glee. But it was neither in the eloquence nor the humour that he made the mark but in his keen knowledge of the State, sincerity and the confidence he exudes. “It is only a man who knows where he is going and who can envision the destination that can brim with such confidence”, said a senior journalist who posited that prior, he had been very halfhearted in his assessment of Governor Okowa but that he is now fully convinced that he has the kernel to take the State to new heights.

The two persons in reference were not the only ones who have found themselves confronted with the compelling need to change their views about Governor Okowa and join the ranks of his ardent supporters. The Physician turned politician has endeared himself to the entire State in the way he started and has carried on.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
