EXCLUSIVE: President Jonathan To Unveil New National Flag Design At National Confab [LOOK]

As part of the national re-engineering project of the Federal Government, President Goodluck Jonathan is set to unveil a new national flag design at the on-going National Conference, this is exclusive.

According to our sources in the Presidency, the new national flag takes into account the aspirations of Nigeria’s 250 ethnic groups. “For sometime the issue of our boring green-white-green national flag has been on the President’s table,” a senior member of the President’s aides have said. “Frankly, speaking our national flag lacks character and does not take into account our rich diversity as a country.”

The new design, which adopts a rainbow theme and which has been made available to us, was designed by a team of the best graphic artists in the country.

“We have been on this for a while, it is absolutely brilliant,” another source in the Presidency said. “This is the dawning of a new sense of pride in Nigerians.” The new national flag has been ready for the past three months, but it was being kept secret for a grand reveal at the National Conference.

So, why doesn’t the President present the flag to the National Assembly? “The National Conference is a better platform because the event is hoisted on the nation’s unity, and this new flag is about uniting Nigerians which is a topic that the President is very passionate about,” our source revealed.

The current national flag was designed in 1959 and first officially hoisted on October 1, 1960. The two unique sea-green bands represent the forests and abundant natural wealth of Nigeria while the white band represents peace and was designed by a student, Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi.
