DELTA 2015: SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA’S ADMINITRATION WILL BE PEOPLE ORIENTED

The Government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa will be dedicated to the salvaging the underprivileged. Poverty has no conviction, hunger has no credo, and despair has no topography. The greatest challenge before the next administration is to provide jobs to the teeming unemployed youth in Delta State.

Senator Okowa will not be content with mere poverty alleviation, but will commit itself to the goal of poverty abolition. With a firm belief that the first claim on development belongs to the poor, Senator Okowa will focus his attention on those who need the rudimentary provisions of life most urgently. He will take necessary steps to provide safety nets in its entirety to all citizens, through understanding, support and empowerment.

Despite the fact that more than two-thirds of our people are living in rural areas, we have not been able to provide adequate public amenities and livelihood opportunities to them. Senator Okowa’s government will be committed to improving the quality of life in our villages, through empowerment in agriculture, trading and provision of good road network. A substantial part of investment will focus on creating communal assets and by emphasizing on basic infrastructure such as roads, shelter, power and potable water.

His administration will strive to end the rural-urban divide guided by the idea of providing urban conveniences to rural areas while preserving the philosophy of the villages. Agriculture is the cradle of livelihood for majority of our people. Senator Okowa will turnaround the fortunes of our farmers, through dynamic polices, like the integrated farmers scheme, the provision of mechanized equipment to our farmers and provision of soft loans to women and youths.

Investments in agriculture will increase with both public and private participation, especially in agro-infrastructure. Steps will be taken to convert farming into a profitable venture through scientific practices and agro-technology. His government will address issues pertaining to pricing and procurement of agricultural produce, crop insurance and post-harvest management. Productivity of animal husbandry will be increased. Senator Okowa’s administration will give incentives towards the setting up of food processing industries. Existing cooperative sector laws will be reviewed to remove anomalies and lacunae.

Water is precious, his government will commit to giving high priority to water security. Potable water will be provided in villages. He is seriously considering all options including linking of rivers, where feasible for optimal use of our water resources to prevent the recurrence of floods and drought. The administration will nurture water conservation and ground water recharge. Irrigation will be popularized to ensure ‘per drop-more crops’.

Senator Okowa’s administration will strive to transit from youth development to youth-led development. It will set up open online channels and virtual rooms for interaction with the youths. It will formulate education policy aimed at meeting the challenges posed by lack of quality, research and innovation in our educational institutions. He will strive to break the barriers between formal education and skill development and put in place a mechanism to give academic equivalence to vocational qualifications, with the goal of skilled Delta State.

The State needs a holistic health care system that is universally accessible, affordable and effective. To achieve this objective, Senator Okowa will maintain the free health-care to the pregnant women, child under five and the aged, including health insurance for the workers and the retirees. To address the shortfall of health care professionals, health education and training will be transformed. More Institutions will be established.

Senator Okowa recognizes the important role our women play in the development of our society and growth of the State. He is committed to providing for gender equality at all levels of government, while encouraging girl child education.

Senator Okowa’s administration will be committed to providing a clean and efficient administration focused on service delivery. He will take steps to build the confidence and morale of our bureaucracy, enabling it with the freedom to work and welcoming innovative ideas. His government will stress on putting in place transparent systems and time bound delivery of government services. Government systems and processes will be revisited to make them citizen friendly, corruption free and accountable. Vote wisely! Vote Senator Ifeanyi Okowa!!
