SENATOR IFEANYI ARTHUR OKOWA: A WORTHY WINNER

Over time the political awakening among the people has been enormous and people of Delta State have become alert to their ebullient responsibility of ensuring that the next leadership of the State is not given to a man who is coming to government to learn the ropes and begin afresh, but to an experienced leader who will advance the spectrum of their economic and social development.

It is easy to tell who a man is. Even, the Holy Book says that by their fruit, you shall know them. The characteristics of a man are what stand him out among the people. If his works are negative, he will certainly be rejected and if his actions and deeds are upright, he or she will be celebrated, which is the reputation that made Senator Okowa a winner. In every generation, nature always presents people who are barrier breakers, men who redirect the fortunes and bring them to greatness.

The battle to occupy the Osadebe House was a tensed one; first it was the party primaries, then the general elections. In a contest Senator Okowa stoop to conquer. It was Mohammed Ali, the legendary boxer who stated that “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact.  It's an opinion.

Deltans from all walks of life came back home and voted Senator Okowa to occupy the Unity House with the hope that he will fulfill the social contract he signed with them through his campaigns. Their decision to vote Senator Okowa is borne out of the social trust they envisage that the governor elect will bring to bear. What are these social trusts?  These are sacrosanctness of his  vision to transform this State to a private-sector driven economy that will create jobs,  a mission that the people yearns for without reservation, they also believe  Senator Okowa will run an inclusive and all-encompassing governance.

On the other hand Deltans must work as a team without self-seclusion, for no land or people can progress without unity. Blackmailing of one another will only build us mountains of hatred for one another but burying our differences for unity of purpose will grant us speed to succeed in the task of transforming our State.

Politically, a lot issues contributed to the immense success of the Governor –Elect at the poll, he had the support of the entire State, while his major opponents were building their campaign on ethnic grounds and lacked the support of the people across the State.

There is no doubt that Senator Okowa is prepared and set for this job. But to achieve sustainable development and social progress, the people must remain the subject and object of economic, political and social progress.

Congratulations to the Governor elect!
