DEMOCRATIC TRANSITION: SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA ENTERS AS DR. UDUAGHAN EXITS

God give us men. The time demands Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and willing hands. Men whom the lust of office does not kill; Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy; Men who possess opinions and a will; Men who have honour; men who will not lie; Men who can stand before a demagogue and damn his treacherous flatteries without winking; Tall men, sun-browned, who live above the fog in public duty and in private thinking – Josiah Gilbert Holland

Many leaders did emerge to govern Delta State but his emergence was divine. In every seventh generation of any race, there is always a leader sent to them with messianic mission.

His enthronement as the Governor of Delta State, is more than a messianic mission, for he has come to salvage our State from ruins and reclaim its battered image. His journey to Government House is not self-serving but to render service and save our people from carcasses of penury.

Grapes are sweet to those that cherish it but are bitter in the mouth of those who find it unworthy of consumption. His, is that fruit every Deltan longs to have.

But he needs to perform and refuse to allow government to be business as usual. By that very act, he would be kicking out of business, professional politicians whose only job was to collaborate with the government agents at the centre to secure contract, receive the funds, abandon the contracts and share the money with the government agents, while allowing the masses to continue to languish in impecuniousness.

Men who dwell with the development of people are leaders, who believe in the future. The character of a great leader is the ladder that raises him to his promotion. Senator Okowa is a man defined by great leadership virtues.

No one can wage war against God and win, Senator Okowa is God sent that was why the many battles against him served as a ladder to his greatness. The forces that contended against him were more than the naked eyes could see, but he did not fight back with weapons.  He turned to God and survived all the battles.

As Deltans look to Senator Okowa’s inauguration, they do so with a fountain of confidence, which flows through their heart that he will perform more than his predecessors.

Happy Democracy Day!

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
