MY THOUGHTS ON THIS DEMOCRACY DAY IN NIGERIA - Ovie Ughwanogho

Congratulation to our out going president Goodluck Jonathan. A man of peace and the true father of democracy in Nigeria. You disappointed those who wanted blood bath in nigeria. While you were planning to uplift Nigeria, they were planning to humiliate you but God saw to it that you emerged a hero. Thank you for your wonderful service to Nigeria. You are simply the best.
To the incoming president, Muhammadu Buhari, we are watching. If you do well we shall applaud and support you. If you decide to chase your enemies around and execute a selective "fight against corruption" or you decide to turn nigeria into a more unitary republic or you decide to reverse our progress toward a free market economy or you decide to perpetuate your self or a section in power, we shall be here to put your two feet on fire.
As for the Independent Electoral Commission(INEC), I say you are fraudulent and incompetent. You disenfranchise 13 million Nigerians by not giving them their permanent voters cards before the elections. I know people who visited their registration units several times but could not collect their their cards. If those 13 million potential voters had been given the opportunity to participate in the process, perhaps the outcome would have been different. In Delta state and so many other states, results were simply forged by ruling party officials in connivance with INEC officials in gross disregard for actual votes cast at the polling units. Attahiru Jega, your INEC is no better than Maurice Iwu`s INEC. The method of rigging simply changed. INEC is in need of total reorganization and change of leadership.
To the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), you must now learn to be an opposition party. Some of your leaders foolishly boasted that they will rule Nigeria for 60yrs. How eeh be now? You took the people for granted, carried on as if there is no tomorrow and grossly lacking any intellectual touch to the process of governance. Now you must rebuild and actively court and incorporate true leaders into the party. Avoid "belle first" type of politicians.
To the All Progressive Congress (APC), for now you are no different from PDP. The worst elements in PDP are amongst you and infact are your financiers. What you do as the ruling party in the days, months and years to come will determine how some of us will relate to you. If you chose to be like the PDP of yesterday, we shall be here to treat you as we treated PDP. If you choose to be different and pursue better ways of leading, you will get the support of the people.
To Nigerians, I congratulate you all for making this day possible. Up up we go. God bless Nigeria.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

THE ENDURING LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP: Chief James Ibori Celebrated for His Impact on Delta State

On Friday, May 31st, during the funeral service for the Late Asagba of Asaba, the essence of true leadership was vividly displayed. The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State. Despite having left office seventeen years ago, he continues to be celebrated whenever he attends public functions i...
