DELTA 2015: SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA – THE RIGHT MODEL FOR NEW DELTA STATE

Moral values rank highest among all natural values. The Goodness, purity, truthfulness and humility of a man ranks higher than genius, brilliance, exuberance, vitality; than the beauty of nature or of art, than the stability and power of a State. What is realized and what shines forth in an act of real forgiveness in a noble and generous renunciation; in a burning and selfless love, is more significant and more noble, more important and more eternal than all cultural values.

Positive moral values are the focus of the world, negative moral values, the greatest evil, worse than suffering, sickness, death, or the disintegration of a flourishing culture. As long as a man blindly disregards the moral values of other persons, as long as he does not distinguish the positive values which inheres in truth, and the negative values which is proper to error, as long as he does not understand the value which inheres in the life of man, and the negative value attached to injustice, will he be incapable of moral goodness?

As long as he is only interested in the question of whether something is subjectively satisfying or not, whether it is agreeable to him or not, instead of asking whether it is something important, serves the interest of the generality, whether in itself it is beautiful, good, whether it should be for its own sake, in a word, whether it is something having a value he cannot be morally good.

Therefore, it is morally right to identify with a man with distinct values, whose report of life is excellent and character a virtue not vice. Assessing the habitation of Senator Okowa passes him for a model of leadership who is a reformer and transformer. He is a man whose integrity is not in doubt. He is free from this ego spasm, from pride and concupiscence. He does not fill the world with his own ego, but leaves to being the space which it needs in order to unfold itself. He understands the dignity and nobility of being as such, the value which it already possesses in its opposition to mere nothingness.

Senator Okowa is a man with reverence in justice toward others, in consideration for the rights of another, for the liberty of another's decisions, in limiting one's own lust for power, and in all understanding of another's rights. Reverence for his neighbours is the basis for all true community life. Senator Okowa knows how to fulfill his moral duties toward the community as a whole and towards the individual members of the community.

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has long become a phenomenon in the polity of Delta State and Nigeria at large, as an emerging statesman and an astute politician. Most times it appears he is the only brand that is seen as in contention come the next general elections. The real reason he is a hit political sensation is his humility, honesty, trustworthiness, generosity and above all God fearing.

One of the major setbacks of leadership in the world is honesty, or the lack of it. It accounts for the many demonstrations, protests, and even calls for the demotion of leaders at different stages and in various climes. This situation stems from the attitude of a leader who lies. True leaders act ethically and are committed to the needs of the people.

Everyone requires their leaders to be trustworthy and leadership is essentially based on trust. Because many people choose to follow leaders they trust, they have a sense of basic trust. It is basic honesty too. Without honesty, a leader can’t lead with integrity. It is therefore logical, true and trite to conclude that it is these uncommon traits of Senator Okowa that has made him an acceptable brand.
