DELTA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT: OPEN LETTER TO OGBORU AND EMERHO

Dear Brother Ogboru and Emerho:

One of the hardest parts of human nature is to hear and accept truths, especially when truths do not synchronize with our goals and aspirations. In a situation such as the one in which you now find yourselves, there is no doubt that those who are closest to you would gladly like to tell you the naked truths, but are afraid to do so because of what they may perceive as your adverse reactions.

In your burning desires to become governor, Delta State has become polarized, especially among the Urhobo-speaking groups, so much that it may take several years of hard work to repair the damage the polarity has done to the psychic of the people.

It should no longer be a mystery to you that the governorship election ended on April 11, 2015, therefore, it is very essential for you to accept the fact that the ruling of the Election Tribunal has come to stay and no appeal process will reverse the decision.

I have not had the opportunity to speak with you since the outcome of the Tribunal. But sources have confirmed that you are contemplating on pursuing the appeal process. My advice to you, brother, is please don’t; you will not win, therefore, it will be a waste of money, time, and a complete drain on the emotions of those who really care about you.

Rather than waste time and money on appeal, I recommend that you concede defeat and establish contact with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and offer your expertise and experience where necessary towards helping to develop Delta State.

Delta needs you. The people need you. Governorship should not be the only channel where any individual can make a difference in the lives of the people. Your contributions may help to formulate ideas that may be essential to solving the terrible high rate of unemployment, grinding poverty and hunger that are now afflicting the masses.

Bear in mind that you are individuals in Delta State that God has blessed much more than others. I understand the tremendous pressure the cabal and other interest groups may be exerting on you to rush to the Appellate Court. Brother, by now it should dawn on you that these cabal and interest groups only agitate for their own self-interest and pocket; they don’t give a damn about you or the people. Once they know that they no longer stand to benefit from your suffering, they will run away from you. If you doubt me ask others.

Politics is not supposed to be a do-or-die thing. There are those who have lost out on elections, yet joined hands to serve in other capacities.

After reading this letter, there are those who may shout in your ears: “don’t give up!” Ask them what they mean. Don’t give up spending money on lawyers in the name of appeal, which in truth may be a losing cause? Don’t give up joining hands to help build Delta State? Don’t give up the opportunity for future contest?

Brother Ogboru and Emerho, I recommend that you should take some time off and get away from all the sycophancies, flatteries, and “sir” this and “sir” that. These characteristics are what often becloud the vision of Nigerian leaders and so prevent them from adhering to their goals and objectives.

Unless and until you get away from the pressure momentarily, it will be very difficult for you to put your ideas, goals, and objectives in proper perspectives. The choice is yours; either follow the “popular opinion” and have the same result or follow your conscience” and survive.

Meanwhile, have a wonderful time.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
