DELTA 2015: MANY ARE CALLED BUT TONY CHUCKS OBUH IS CHOSEN

The season of politics has come again. Power shifted from Central to South senatorial districts and now from South senatorial district on its way to North Senatorial district. Of course, even though some power mongers would have wanted it to return to Central or South for unknown reasons.

However, every true politician in the Peoples’ Democratic Party in the State are fully aware of the division such position would create in the State and are on point when they argue that it is a sequential logic that after Central and South, it should go to North. Though, certain determinants should not be sacrificed on the altar of zoning. That concern the quality, ability, capacity, acceptability, exposure, integrity, and intellectual depth of whoever will want to seek election into the high office of a governor from North senatorial district.

In North senatorial district, we have the professionals in politics that have the brain capacity and intellect to deliver; we also have those whose professional calling is politicking. Goodly, of those who are professionals in politics with the capacity to deliver the dividend of democracy to Delta people is a former Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Tony Chucks Obuh, who stands out.

He is the man whose heart is agreeable to the people including those in the opposing camp. Even Opponents have accepted the fact that in this contest, Tony Obuh remains the best and stands a better and greater chance not only because of wide acceptability but the mien, intellect and exposure to developmental issues across the State.

But why do we read disparaging reports against Obuh in the media? The answer lies in the simple fact that those executing the media terrorism are either jealous or aggrieved that the doors of the political ark is closing against them with the entry of Obuh. Again, having found no fault in Tony Obuh, some have either accused him of having the support of the governor or being a neophyte to delve into politics. Of course a similar situation was also recorded in the Bible that even when Pilate found no fault in Jesus, the Jews who were bent on seeing that he was killed accused him of healing people on the Sabbath, an accusation that didn’t hold water.

Understandably, there could have been something intrinsically wrong if everyone has accepted with open mind, Obuh’s aspiration because of the kind politics most are used to. This is more so that in the theory of diffusion of innovation, there are the early adopters who key into new products immediately they are released into the market and there are also the laggards, who, no matter how best the product is, they will stick to what they are used to even if the efficacy is on the decline.

Interestingly, the media terrorism against Obuh should be expected. They want to put him in bad light before the public eyes or pummeling him to submission so as not to contest the election. In spite of the blackmail being hurled at Obuh, his popularity is growing astronomically by the day.

Daily, most people who were in some other camps are joining Obuh’s team because they have seen a humble and dynamic personality, an honest politician, a game changer and a detribalized gentleman who believes in hard work. People see in him the good intentions he has for the State in terms of a diversified State economy, employment generation, accessible health care delivery, better educational system and a vibrant workforce.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
