IS OMAROSA’S MATERNAL HERITAGE NIGERIAN? By Emmanuel Ojameruaye

Let us not be deceived by her seeming Nigerian name. There are many African Americans who have adopted Nigerian, other African, Jewish and Arabic/Moslem names. Omarosa has never said that she is of Nigerian descent, neither did her parents.

Yes, they gave her an African, possibly Nigerian name. While I admire the fact that she is now standing up to Trump after many years of singing his praise, I do not think that we must "claim" her as a Nigerian or of Nigerian heritage. If she is interested in knowing her African heritage, she would have since done the necessary DNA tests or the research.

So far, those who are "desperate" to claim her have shown some names in Yoruba, Itsekiri and some other languages in the Niger Delta region that are close to "Omarosa" or the full name "Omaroseonee" but none has so far shown what "Omarosa" or "Omaroseonee" actually means in one of these languages.

Could it be that "Omaroseonee" is an adulteration or misspelling on a Nigerian name or word? The closest words in Urhobo language are "Omorosa" = child of debt", Omorosa r'oni = child of mother's debt, Omorose w'oni = child of father and mother, Omenasan = mine is unique/different, Omamerhi = good spirit, Omorayen = yourselves, etc.

Nigerians from other ethnic groups will continue to search for words in their languages that are close to "Omarosa" or "Omaroseonee" but they may never find one! So, please let Omarosa be Omarosa!

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
