THE ANATOMY OF BETRAYAL AND LETDOWN

Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what happens to him. It is only very few people who knew how it felt in the morning of Monday, 08 December, 2014. It was hateful to have been part of the Jamboree that ended in ignominy. Defeat I can endure with cheerfulness. But betrayal is like taking the wind from my sails, or the earth from beneath my feet. It chills my spirits like a rainy day, and all I can do is draw the curtains and cry into my pillow. That is how it was for me and many of us who were involved in what became a charade in the Project Obuh team. It was about too much of prudence and lack of confidence either in oneself or in ones partners, which meant that victory passed without seizing the moment. To say the least, it was narcissistic with evidence of paranoia. Because of narcissism and paranoid delusion, friends were seen as enemies. At the end of the day there was no real platform for strategy consultations. Everyth...

SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA: A SEED OF COMPETENCE

A fulfilled leadership is rooted in one who rewards his followers and allows them to come into their own. The next governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in all places of his primary assignments through his productivity earned the respect of his superiors.  His work experience reveals that he is an excellent developer. His loyalty, humility and honesty are  unequaled  and this makes every man that comes in contact with him to accept him without any sense of doubt about his personality and capability. That means having an honest man like Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as a leader in Delta State means progression. Leaders are always encouraged to exhibit confidence, competence and omniscience but Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is not such a leader as he already has these virtues as part of his being, and what is in you is not borrowed,   the cognate experience and competence of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in the political world will make Delta State an inves...

The major blocs in contention for the position had been the Ijaw and the Isoko ethnic groups in the state given the fact that Okowa is from Delta North Senatorial district. The decision to back Otuaro was largely believed to be based on the support Okowa received from prominent Ijaw politicians including Senator James Manager and former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo in the run-up to the primaries. The support of the Ijaw politicians was believed to have played a key role in the decisive victory of Okowa in the governorship primaries. The camps of Okowa’s rivals, G...

UNDERSTANDING THE MAN, OKOWA

Surprise! Shock!! Upset!!! Those were some of the words the media used to describe the emergence of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the Delta PDP gubernatorial flag bearer. But to those who know Senator Okowa, the result of the Delta PDP gubernatorial primary election was anything but surprising. It only cemented his profile as a consummate politician, consensus builder, and popular grassroots mobiliser. In 2010 when he contested for the Senate, he  faced even more daunting prospects than the recently concluded governorship primary election. He battled for the party ticket with Marian Ali, the wife of the then PDP national chairman. Not many people gave him a chance of winning as the party hierarchy was effectively aligned against him. There were suggestions from well-meaning people for him to opt for a ministerial appointment instead of fighting what looked like a lost cause. However, Okowa, who had just quit as the Secretary to the State Government, stayed the course and agains...
