DELTA 2015: SUPPORTING ZONING OF GOVERNORSHIP TICKET TO DELTA NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

Peoples’ Democratic Party faithful in the State should support the zoning of the party’s governorship ticket to Delta North Senatorial District. As true party men and leaders, there is no choice but to support the decision of the PDP on the matter.

No doubt, the decision by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, to zone the governorship of Delta State in 2015 to Delta North Senatorial District, has created discontent and perhaps some level of bitter frustration among certain party loyalists and citizens in the State; particularly party supporters from Delta Central Senatorial District. Mostly affected are those who had positioned themselves to participate in the race for the governorship in 2015.

By this decision they have lost both the capital and the profit. The question then is: what do we do; do we defy the party’s arrangement by allowing our personal ambition to override our loyalty to the much cherished supremacy of the party, or do we bury our individual interest and abide by the decision of the party irrespective of the loss and frustrations?

Putting all this side by side with the supremacy of the party it is easy to conclude that we must bury our personal and group interests in the larger interest of the PDP. We must respect the decision of the party regarding the 2015 Governorship race in the State.

Leaders and stakeholders from Delta Central senatorial district should engage in discussions with aspirants from Delta North Senatorial District to ensure that the interests of people from the district are adequately protected when the party’s candidate finally emerges. Let us reason together. Let us exercise patience by accepting the present as a sacrifice for tomorrow. Let us demonstrate our total loyalty and unshaken support to our party. Tomorrow will surely be better than today.

I therefore appeal to all aspirants and groups in Delta Central Senatorial District to accept this decision as a sacrifice for the growth of the State and our party. Although the decision is painful to the people of the district, party faithful are advised not to jump ship or go against the decision of the party. We must however ensure, with our votes, that the best and the generally accepted candidates flies our party’s flag and is eventually elected to the office.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
